& then, finally home, I collected my wonderful daughter from school & we took some time to open the presents i'd brought for her & taste some of the sweets too - like these nice little chicks....

things to do on a long flight....

on my recent trip to Japan / Korea I did a bit more drawing & feel i'm coming along....it's a nice small pleasure to sit somewhere & draw....simple....

i've arrived in korea - currently eating barley corn bread, which is very nice indeed....last night i was taken to a barbecue pork restaurant - pork, kimchi, garlic cloves, korean miso & various pickles & sauces....
above are a few more pictures from japan - my card reader is broken so need to get a new one before i can share some of the korean photos here....

hmmm, 'treasure hiding' - well, for one thing i'm going to have to hide a few of the treasures i've found so far on my trip to japan in order to get them onto my flight to korea without going over the baggage allowance !
today I arrived in Nara & had a wander to the deer park - er....it's quite something !
the three orange containers fought a good fight in the battle for suitcase space but I had to leave them in Kyoto ! they were from supermarket sorbet !

when plans change small treasures can arrive too....

day two in tokyo - eating tempura soba soup, grilled corn crisps, edemame & funny soft sweet snacks....explored the second hand bookshop area - bought a few bargains....
according to most people in the travel industry, japan is one of the most expensive countries in the world & tokyo the most expensive city. all i can say is that that appears to be totally untrue. it will actually cost you more to stay in grimsby in the cheapest b&b, eating the cheapest poor quality food & taking the bus. in fact i don't know anywhere in the uk for example that anywhere close to the amazing prices & quality here.
i'm staying in a hotel that is regarded as 2 star in japan & it's better than most 3 & 4 star ones in europe. anyway, here are a few comparisons:
tube ticket for a single journey across 2 zones: London £6 upwards I think / tokyo 160yen (just over £1) + the underground here is clean, efficient & friendly.
hotel room: taking a cheap UK chain (traveloadge)…

. i've arrived in japan ! so far i've eaten a nice bowl of tempura noodles near the hotel & also made a couple of 'non-japanese reading person shopping' mistakes - namely buying some grapes that I thought were 80 yen but actually cost 498 yen ! - they don't taste that nice either, but i'm determined to eat them all. Also have just eaten onigiri but have no idea what the filling was !
