. listening to Gerald Finzi's cello concerto....there is so much amazing British music from the 20th century ( finzi, moeran, bliss, leighton, bax, stevens, butterworth, deal, clarke, scott, ogden, rubbra, tippett & on & on)....how amazing it is to pick a piece of round pastic up, place it in a machine & hear the result of the hours of inspiration & toil, frustration & joy....that ever-emerging pool of sound....when I was recording the sound of the architectural spaces of the Jacqueline Du Pre building in Oxford a couple of years ago I took the first picture above....it's a detail from the famous performance photograph of Du Pre, hanging opposite the engraved glass panel created by Laurence Whistler, who also did the Finzi window (2nd picture above)....
