. on the way back from her running club Pheobe was talking about the girl in front of her running a bit faster & sat in the car she struck a 'in mid run' pose with one arm to the front & one to the back....so funny....she also then said 'Charlie (her dog) is the best dog ever' & 'he's well behaved too because he doesn't bother with the other dogs because he's too interested in his ball'....also Pheobe was talking about how her cheeks were red & warm because of running....they were like freshly toasted crumpet cheeks :. ) we decided that would be our name for when ones cheeks go red through exercise....

. theatre tickets booked....a simple thing I know....took a walk to the shops to get grapes, bread & some other things for me & Pheobe's tea - teriyaki chicken....yum....on the way I found 2p....we have a saying here in the UK: 'find a penny, pick it up & all the day you'll have good luck', so I guess 2p was …

. spent most of the daytime in Lincolnshire....I set off around 9am & made my first stop in Louth....a small town I haven't been to before for some reason....it's also the home of Robert Wyatt, the rather good english songwriter....I planned to explore the town for an hour before setting off to be elsewhere by 12 noon....however, I parked outside a charity bookshop & well, that was that really....spent ages in there, exploring & buying books....so, then I headed off towards Woodhall Spa via Horncastle....Woodhall is home to the Kinema in the woods, which brought back memories of seeing a film there with Pheobe....it also has a deli with cakes & chocolates that were very tempting (I got two cakes....oh oh !)....during the day I found dovecotes, bullrushes, fields of corn cut down except a thin row along the edges, magpies, skylarks, rivers, brooks, public footpaths inviting to walk down, rivers, boats, ladybirds, blossom....

. me & Pheobe made a quick stop at the shore of the river humber on the way to her dance class....skimmed stones, took photos, walked along playground obstacle courses, swung on rope tree swings :. )

. Pheobe has just given me my presents & the most wonderful card....it was a book she made herself full of photo's of us & some lovely, touching words....
. today I am 45 years old....45 years ago my mum held me in her arms for the first time....I have been to a lot of places since then....most of them lovely, a few less so....I have loved & lost, smiled & cried, been 'successful' & known failure too. I have been supported by people & let down by others....I experience life, the world & the emotions that bind those two things together....I thank my mum every day by being the person I am & I take great joy in being a part of Pheobe's (my daughter) life....we are our own people & our parents role in that can vary massively, for me my luc…

. yesterday evening me & Ames Newton went to Hornsea....we discovered two things: 1) all the fish & chip shops in Hornsea are closed on Mondays ! & 2) sitting on the beach watching the sky's blueness deepen, the moon brighten & the far off lights of Bridlington shimmer....very nice indeed....simple....

. yesterday evening Pheobe was doing her history homework sat next to me on the settee....she lifted up the piece of paper she was writing on to show me something....perhaps a paragraph of her essay, or a nice sentance....ah but no ! she had spent the last few minutes working on something even better....

. the small fabric test square that came with Pheobe's sewing machine....to think about all the thoughts that ran instantly through her mind when she was thinking what to try to stitch first - which shape, which type of stitch....& to see her choices....wonderful....

. flowers are often too easily thought of....we are so used to them as part of our surroundings that we probably take them for granted a great deal....I was looking at these tulips outside Pheobe's house & the way the colours mix into each other is quite stunning....something a human hand would find impossible to exactly match....the sense of flowers....

. me & Pheobe called in to see Alice & Mabel this afternoon, to drop off Mabel's birthday presents....she showed us her bubble machine....

. further fabric foraging has resulted in finding this blog all about the colourful world of fabric prints....click here to view....& if you want to get hold of some Japanese fabrics, here is an etsy shop t…

. during the interval of the school play Pheobe was in last night, I went outside & took some photo's mainly of trees outide the main entrance....there is something about the way blossom looks at night....makes the sky look more full somehow....

. over the last couple of days i've been composing a piece from the recordings I made in Prague....I recorded them just for my own pleasure really, walking around recording all the time as I wandered through the city - finding quiet squares & parks, churches, clicking street crossing machines, trams & venaculars etc etc....it's quite hard to put into words the sheer, utter joy of listening, of having ones ears as open & as aware of the wonder around us as our eyes....it adds to my experience of life so much....not only the obvious sounds that we somehow learn to filter out in our daily lives, but the hidden & the unexpected ones: of surface vibrations, of pond weed growing & waterboatmen darting across the wa…
